Judging for the 2001 competition
was Saturday, May 12, 2001, from 9 AM until approximately 5 PM at
the Ex'pression Center for New Media in Emeryville.
"New media" works are measured against
standards that entrants define for themselves (in other words, what
they hoped to accomplish), as well as against each other (the other
entries in the category).
A jury of multimedia business and academic professionals
review how clearly each entrant's work meets its specifically defined
challenge, and then judge how well the entrant's content, creativity
and technical expertise fulfill criteria of excellence.
There are two levels of judging, professional and
student. (Students have to be full time, with no professional work
experience in their entry category.) Within each level of judging,
distinctions will be made. Factors, such as available resources,
are taken into account -- e.g., team versus individual entries,
independent versus larger corporate productions.
Thus, making these distinctions, there can be more
than one winner in a single category. It is excellence that is being
sought and rewarded. And therefore, conversely, if standards are
not met in a category, no winner will be named.
The judges for this year's competition are again
a distinguished group, recognized names in the industry as well
as associates with proven areas of expertise. The following judges
were recruited:
