Whereas under the rules of the BNB competition I was obliged to
submit my entry under the "professional" category, my paying job
is not designing off-the-wall racing concept cars. This was a solo
project, done on my own time, and I was not paid one cent for doing
it. Dedicated, aren't I? That having been said, the Locust is the
culmination of over 3 years study into the idea of a racecar that
follows a totally different paradigm. It is a feasibility assessment
of a car that would (in theory) possess enhanced aerodynamic and
cornering characteristics without conforming to established norms.
Initially I tried to apply the concept to an open-wheel design,
much like Indy- or Formula 1 cars. I decided that this would be
a dead-end, so I pursued the idea of a closed-wheel design instead.
The result is unusual to say the least. Hope it's as interesting
for you as it was for me. (For the techie types out there; my tool
for both creation and rendering was AutoCAD version 14).
