"Interview"© is a CD-ROM designed to assist professionals in interviewing children who may have been sexually abused.

"There are few tasks so hard or so important as effectively interviewing children about possible sexual abuse or other traumatic events. This innovative, interactive computer technology has the promise of engaging children in a non-suggestive process and providing opportunities to enhance accuracy and completeness of their description. Relying on pictures and involving the children directly should make telling about hard things easier." Lucy Berliner, M.S.W. Director of Research from the Sexual Assault Center at the Harborview Medical Center in Seattle Washington

"Interview" provides a structure that helps the child tell her or his story verbally or non-verbally. It assists the interviewer by providing a framework of questions and an easy-to-use system for taking notes and tracking the child's selections that can be used throughout the interview.

"Interview" provides children with pictures and sounds that help create a safe, and supportive environment for responding to questions and telling their story.

"Interview" is used by professionals involved in the interviewing process including police officers, psychologists, social workers, attorneys, and psychiatrists.

This program is not a substitute for a trained interviewer, it simplifies the interview process and gives the interviewer more time to focus on the child.

"Interview's" primary purpose is to gather information required to confirm a case of sexual abuse for further action or prosecution. Its secondary purpose is to assist psychologists, social workers, and other mental health professionals in uncovering the details of sexual abuse for use in treating the child.

"Interview" was funded by grants from the National Institute of Mental Health's Small Business Innovative Research Program.
